A BIT ABOUT MUSIC THERAPY
According to the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) music therapy is a research-based practice and profession in which music is used to actively support individuals as they strive to improve their health, functioning and well being.
Music Therapy is employed by university trained professionals whoa re registered with the AMTA and bound by a code of ethics and extensive body of research that helps shape and inform their practice.

WHAT DO WE DO IN MUSIC THERAPY?
There are a number of therapeutic interventions music therapists employ to meet varying needs and goals. For example:
Singing
Listening to music
Instrument Jamming
Dancing/Gross Motor Movement
Fine Motor Movement
Music facilitated bonding/attachment
Jamming on instruments
Therapeutic Instrument Lessons
Improvisation (making music together spontaneously)
Writing Songs/Lyric Substitution
Relaxation/Guided Imagery
Music assisted counselling
This is a small example of the number of techniques we can apply to meet varying goals and needs.
One of the most important things in music therapy, is making sure you enjoy yourself/the client enjoys themselves. This encourages individuals to meet their health and wellness goals more promptly.
GROUP THERAPY
MG Music Therapy runs programs for children in Early learening settings. Groups incorporate a range of stimulating multi-sensory activities designed to encourage childhood development in the following areas:
Language and communication skills
Fine and Gross motor movement
Social Skills
All groups are facilitated by Megan or a qualified music therapist. They are grounded in child best development and music therapy research consistent with the Early Years Learning Framework.
MG MUSIC THERAPY also offers ELC educations an educator training program which helps to equip the educations with the skills to use music in engaging ways to target various developmental outcomes.
